BEHAVIOUR OF ALUMINIUM IN FIRE;
BEHAVIOR OF PLASTICS IN FIRE:

TEFLON- 260 DEG C COMPOSTION
NYLON- 220 DEG C MELTS (BURNS WITHOUT SMOKE)
POLYPROPYLENE- 570 DEG C IGNITES ( CO IS INVOLVED)
PVC – 140 DEG C MELTS (IGNITES WITH DIFFICULTY BURNS SLOWLY AND PRODUCES WHITE SMOKE (TOXIC)
NEOPRENE RUBBER- DIFFICULTS TO IGNITE

FUEL AND LIUBRICATING OIL NEAR TO FIRE:
MACHINERY SPACE FIRES:

o)      URANIUM FIRE:

AIRCRAFT FIRES:

a)      COMBUSTIBLE MATERAIL CAN BE  IGNITED  BY SPARKING FROM METALLIC OBJECTS EXCITED BY RADIO FREQUENCY RADIATION
b)      PERMANENT DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY INDUCES CURRENTS IN CERTAIN ELECTRONIC EQUIPTMENT PARTICULKARLY THIOSE WHERE SEMI CONDUCTORS ARE INCLUDED
c)       RADIATION FROM THE ARIAL OF HIGH POWER COMMUNICATION AND RADAR TRANSMITTER IS CAPABLE OF CAUSING HAZARDOUS SITUATION SOME OF WHICH INCLUDE FIRE UNLESS APPROPRIATE PRECAUTIONS ARE ALWAYS OBSERVED
d)      EXPLOSIVES MATERIALS AND PROPELLANT  CAN BE IGNITED OR DETONATED BY EITHER THE SPARKING BETWEEN METALLIC CONTACTS OR BY THE INDUCTION OF CURRENTS INTO THE FIRING CURCUITS OF ELECTRICALLY INITIATED EXPLOSIVES DEVICES
      e) WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPTMENTS AND MOBILES PHONES WIILL
IGNITES FUEL VAPUORS IN FUEL STATIONS
IF THE PRESENCE OF FREE FUEL OR FUEL VAPOUR IS EVIDENT OR SUSPECTED,
THEN THE FOLLOWING MEASURES ARE TO BE TAKEN ENSURES SAFETY AS                   APPROPRATE

Fire Hydraulics and Fire Loss Control

Fire Hydraulics and Fire Loss Control

Lesson 5
Control of Air Flow

ventilation control

flow of air will help the fire. to achive the aim of reducing the flow of air to a room and limit the spread of smoke, in the shortest possible time, the standard procedure is
crash stopping all ventilation fans (blowers / exhausts) as soon as the alarm is raised this action significantly contributes towards reducing the supply of air to the fire prevents the smoke from spreading

a)      restoring power to all ventilation systems so that they may be restarted
b)      supply ventilation is essential system and rooms not affected by fire
      c) contain the smoke within the desireed boundary and prevent the supply of air to the fire
      d) remove smoke from arteas adjacent top the fire and remove all smoke and furnes after       extinction

crash stopping ventilation:

a)      shut down main power supply immediatedly to whole areas of industry. switch on necessary lioghting power supply at the switch board after five seconds.
b)      trip the local starters of general ventilations fans which are not controlled from ventrilation breakers
c)       if industry is provided  with centralized air conditioned air supply it has be controlled at ventilstion trunking
d)      electrical sipplies must be available to all ventilation systems as soon as possible after crash stopping so that systems essential and which do not intrefere
e)      care must be taken that smoke is not pickes up by suctions of hp air compressor and by essentials systems to living spaces
f)       boundaries must be established to ensure that smoke is contained
g)      when using exhaust fans a route top atmosphere must be opened up to allow make up air tyo enter inside

machinery space ventilation:

a)      close the ventilation supply flaps to the machinery space affected
b)      stand by top close ventilation exhaust flaps, but do not close untol ordered, so that the exhaust system can be continue to be used for the first aid fire fighting

c)       restore essentials ventilation:
d)      boundary cooling:
e)      smoke clearance:
f)       area classification:
g)      high fire risk:
h)      explosive risk:
i)        electronic and high value:
j)        accomadation spaces:
